Financial Assistance

Emergency Financial Assistance

If you are experiencing financial hardship, Metro Catholic Outreach (MCO) may be able to provide assistance with rent or utility expenses—including electric, gas, and water—to help prevent eviction or service disconnection.

MCO’s financial assistance program is made possible through the generous support of our 10 parish churches and other community donors. Assistance may cover the current month’s charges as well as past-due balances. Payments are issued directly to landlords or utility providers. Please note that we are unable to provide advance payments for future rent or utility expenses.

Funding is limited, and assistance is granted based on eligibility and availability of funds. Applicants must meet established income guidelines and submit all required documentation to be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must live in Cedar Rapids, Fairfax, Hiawatha, or Marion.
  • Must have a reliable source of income.
  • Must be renting; homeowners are not eligible for mortgage assistance but may qualify for utility assistance.
  • Must demonstrate financial hardship, such as unexpected medical bills, urgent car repairs, reduced work hours, or similar situations, with supporting documentation.

Each household may receive MCO financial assistance once per year, up to 3 times.
